Make It a “Fun-tober” to Remember with Fall Festivals

Fall is once again upon us, bringing with it the hope of cooler weather and a variety of great events to tempt San Antonians back outdoors. Watch a colorful Day of The Dead puppet procession at La Villita, walk amid hundreds of released Monarch butterflies at the Historic Pearl, or sip a crisp craft lager in Dignowity Park. Take a peek at these and other events on our list of some of the best offerings in the Alamo City in October, then get ready for a ton of fun this season.


Every Saturday in October, the San Antonio Botanical Garden celebrates autumn with a fun fest suitable for even the smallest kiddos. Visitors will be able to trick-or-treat along the scarecrow trail, participate in costume parades, encounter live animals, make crafts and enjoy other thematic activities on the beautiful grounds. Children under 3 are admitted free, tickets for children 3-13 are $7; adults are $10.

The Pumpkin Patch San Antonio

Pick out just the right pumpkin at this festival featuring traditional hayrides, pony rides, a petting zoo, bounce house, trampoline bungee jumping, and harvested pumpkins galore. Food and activity tickets are available for purchase at the front gate, and admission is $5 for adults, $1 for children 4-15, and free for wee visitors age 3 and younger. Be sure to hit the ATM first, as tickets are CASH only.

Celebrate all things German with Beethoven Maennerchor in San Antonio’s historic King William neighborhood. Eat authentic German fare and hear great music by the Beethoven choirs and bands, plus musical duo Hotz’n Plotz is on hand straight from the Munich Biergarten—doesn’t get more authentic than that.

Monarch Butterfly and Pollinator Festival

Enjoy arts, crafts and learning activities for kids of all ages plus a People’s Pollinator Parade (costumes encouraged) and butterfly bike troupe. Hundreds of tagged Monarch butterflies will be released in waves during the free fest.

When: October 22 from 9 am – 1 pm

La Villita Presents Día de Los Muertos

The two-day event bringing together traditional art and culture with live music and entertainment is free and open to the public. Festivities include a dance, drum and puppet procession, live poetry, the largest open altar exhibition in San Antonio, hands-on crafting, and music at the Arneson River Theater.

2016 San Antonio Beer Festival

The 11th Annual San Antonio Beer Festival is the largest beer fest in San Antonio, pouring 400+ premium and craft beers from 150+ breweries from around the world. Beyond beer, the San Antonio Beer Festival will also feature live music, a wine garden, food trucks and booths, local vendors and more. The adults-only event takes place at Dignowity and Lockwood Parks, and blankets and lawn chairs are encouraged.  General admission tickets are going fast and may be purchased on line for $35. A portion of the festival proceeds benefit the San Antonio Food Bank—cheers to that!
